PROJECT: St. Clement’s Wells

LOCATION: Wallyford, East Lothian

CLIENT: Private client

STATUS: Completed on site 2017

DESCRIPTION: Large new-build farm house

Gilberts were commissioned in 2009 to design a large house on land connected to St Clements Wells farm near Wallyford, East Lothian.  The farm sits on elevated ground to the south of Wallyford, commanding spectacular views across East Lothian and over the Firth of Forth. The 350sq.m two storey house, clad in natural stone and slate, is perched on a terrace, surrounded by trees with open farmland beyond. Its rectangular form is articulated with a semi-circular glazed tower which houses the ground floor dining room and a stunning guest bedroom on the upper level. The ground floor reception rooms are all interlinked, creating a circulation route around the central fire places at the heart of the house.

The house is heated via a ground source heat pump connected to coils buried in the garden. A farm office outbuilding is also planned to the south of the main house, with garages below.

Work started on site in 2015 and the main house was completed in the Autumn of 2017.
