PROJECT: St Margarets, Rosslynlee

LOCATION: Rosewell, Midlothian.

CLIENT: Oakridge Group Ltd.

STATUS: Planning application 2017

DESCRIPTION: A development of up to 400 houses and flats at the former Rosslynlee Hospital, Midlothian for Oakridge Group.

Planning applications were lodged in 2016 and 2017 for the refurbishment of the abandoned Category C listed hospital building and associated out buildings, together with new-build residential developments in the adjacent existing farmland.

The new-build residential elements are intended to enable the refurbishment of the listed building into flats, with the development as a whole creating a new village within the grounds of the former hospital, surrounded by the spectacular Midlothian countryside.

Gilberts were part of a consultancy team, and were specifically responsible for designing the new build properties clustered in five distinct parcels of land immediately adjacent to the listed building. Each parcel had its particular context and topography which influenced the house designs, and the proposals were developed in close collaboration with the planning consultants and landscape architects at Geddes Consulting.
